Thanksgiving is one of many celebrations that people look forward to. On this occasion, they get to see and spend time with their loved ones – a time to bond over food and drinks. For some, it's also a time away from work, especially for those who decide to suspend operations on that day. But for those who do have to report to work, such as those in the contact center, it should not be something to fuss about, as there are other ways to celebrate this time of the year.
1. Throw a Thanksgiving party
One fun activity that you and your teammates can do to celebrate Thanksgiving is to have your own party at the office. You can, perhaps, hold a potluck lunch or dinner so you get to feast on a variety of food brought in by each one. In a culturally diverse workforce, the celebration can become more interesting when you ask each one to bring traditional meals from their own countries.
This gives each one the time to bond with workmates, and get to know them more despite the busy schedule, and toxic tasks.
2. Set up a "gratitude board"
Set up a gratitude board and invite employees to write about the things they feel grateful for. This may include family members, specific coworkers, office perks that they enjoy, and even random things in their office life.
As you can imagine, the gratitude board will end up becoming quite a sight in the office, containing positivity that can help keep everyone's spirits high despite the day's workload. It makes you reflect on the everyday blessings you receive no matter how small or menial they are.
3. Give "Thank You" notes to workmates
For a more private Thanksgiving celebration, why not give "Thank You" notes to workmates who have inspired you, or have made an impact in your work. Such can motivate you, or your workmates to contribute better at work, and aid others, just in case challenging tasks get out of hand. Sending notes of gratitude is also a great way to improve the culture in the workplace.
4. Launch a CSR project
Thanksgiving is one of the holidays where your company can fittingly carry out one of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects. Why not take the time to visit or launch a feeding program at a nursing home or orphanage? In this way, the company is able to give back to less-capable members of society. At the same time, such an initiative can help employees realize the many blessings that they have, and share these to others.
Holding interesting activities to celebrate Thanksgiving can create a more sound, inspiring, and motivating workplace. It further helps in improving the company's culture. Employees must remember, though, to extend gratitude as well to business clients and customers.
